Overview

Far from the Kaziranga crowds, Upper Assam hides two of the state's most rewarding wild places. This tour starts in Dibrugarh's tea country, then heads to Dibru-Saikhowa National Park, where motorboats explore river channels in search of Ganges river dolphins, feral horses and rare grassland birds.

Next comes Dehing Patkai National Park, Assam's largest lowland rainforest, where forest walks reveal towering hollong trees, hornbills and the whooping calls of hoolock gibbons. Along the way you will visit Digboi's century-old oil heritage, a Tai Phake village and the Stilwell Road area — a fascinating, little-visited corner of India.
