About this experience
The Mawkdok Dympep valley, about 30 km from Shillong on the road to Sohra, is a deep, forested gorge with a famous viewpoint. It is also home to one of the longest ziplines in Northeast India, stretching hundreds of metres across the valley, which makes it a favourite stop for thrill-seekers on the way to Cherrapunji.
After a safety briefing and harnessing, riders launch from a platform near the viewpoint and fly over the treetops with the valley floor far below, enjoying views of waterfalls and terraced slopes on clear days. Several zipline segments may be on offer, depending on the operator.
Rides depend on the weather — fog and rain can pause operations — and there are usually weight and age limits. Even if you skip the zipline, the viewpoint and the roadside tea stalls are worth a stop.
