About this experience
Shnongpdeng, a Pnar village on the Umngot river upstream of Dawki, is Meghalaya's adventure playground. Its riverbank is lined with camps offering tents, simple meals and bonfires under the stars, and the river itself — deep, slow-moving and astonishingly clear in winter — is perfect for water activities.
Cliff jumping is the headline adventure: local operators guide jumpers from rocks of various heights into deep pools, with life jackets and rescue swimmers. Snorkelling reveals fish and the pebbled bed below, while kayaking, boating, zip lines across the river and the village suspension bridge add variety. The night sky, away from city lights, is often spectacular.
Safety standards vary, so we work only with trusted local partners. Jumping is optional and never forced; heights are chosen according to experience. Activities are restricted in the monsoon when the river rises.
