About Shnongpdeng
Shnongpdeng is a small Pnar (Jaintia) village on the banks of the Umngot river, about 8–10 km upstream from Dawki. While Dawki is busy with day-trippers, Shnongpdeng offers the same astonishingly clear water in a quieter, greener setting, and it has become Meghalaya's favourite riverside camping spot.
Riverbank camps with tents and simple meals line the shore, and local operators offer boating, kayaking, snorkelling, and cliff jumping from rocks of various heights into the deep green pools, as well as zip lines across the river and a suspension bridge with fine views. Evenings bring bonfires and starry skies.
Safety standards vary between operators, so we use trusted local partners who provide life jackets and trained guides. Like Dawki, the water is clearest from November to April; in the monsoon, the river rises and activities are restricted.
How to reach Shnongpdeng
About 95 km (3 hours) from Shillong via Dawki. Combine with Dawki and Mawlynnong.
