About Krang Suri Falls
Krang Suri (Krangshuri) Falls, near Amlarem in the West Jaintia Hills about 90 km from Shillong, has become one of Meghalaya's most loved waterfalls thanks to its striking aquamarine pool. The water drops in a broad curtain over a rocky ledge into a deep basin, and on sunny days the colour is almost unreal.
A paved path and steps lead down through the forest to the base of the falls. Life jackets are available, and in the dry season visitors are allowed to swim in the pool, with lifeguards on duty; boats sometimes take people behind the curtain of water into a small cave. Swimming is usually stopped in the monsoon when the current becomes dangerous.
Krang Suri is a highlight of a Jaintia Hills day trip that can also include the Nartiang monoliths, Jowai, and the Thadlaskein lake. It can also be combined with Dawki and Shnongpdeng, which are about an hour away.
How to reach Krang Suri Falls
About 90 km (2.5–3 hours) from Shillong via Jowai, or about 45 km from Dawki.
