Winter Snow Trips

From December to March, Arunachal Pradesh offers some of the most accessible snow in eastern India. On the Tawang route, Sela Pass and the lakes around it are often blanketed in snow, Sela Lake freezes solid, and the drive from Tawang toward Bum La and Madhuri Lake passes white landscapes under deep blue skies. Tawang town itself may see light snowfall.

In the east, Mayudia Pass above Roing is the quickest snow destination from the Assam plains, reachable within a few hours from Tinsukia or Dibrugarh. After fresh snowfall, families flock there for snowball fights and photographs. Mechuka and Anini also receive snow on their surrounding hills.

Winter travel needs preparation. Temperatures fall well below freezing at night, and roads can close briefly after heavy snow. We use experienced drivers, carry snow chains where needed, build buffer days into itineraries and choose heated accommodation. Pack thermal layers, waterproof boots, gloves and sunglasses.
