About Mayudia Pass & Roing

Mayudia (Mayodia) Pass sits at about 2,655 m on the road from Roing to Anini in Lower Dibang Valley district, roughly 56 km above Roing. Between December and March it often receives heavy snowfall, and because it is reachable within a few hours from Dibrugarh and Tinsukia, it has become eastern India's favourite place to play in the snow.

Roing itself, at the foot of the Mishmi Hills, is a pleasant base with Idu Mishmi and Adi communities. Around it are the archaeological site of Bhismaknagar, a brick fort dating to around the 12th century linked to the legend of Rukmini; the Mehao Wildlife Sanctuary with Mehao Lake; Sally Lake; and the Deopani river. The Reh festival of the Idu Mishmi, in early February, is a cultural highlight.

Above Mayudia, the road continues to Hunli and eventually Anini through dense forest and remote villages. Roads can close after heavy snowfall, so plan flexible days if travelling in mid-winter.

How to reach Mayudia Pass & Roing

Roing is about 120 km (3–4 hours) from Tinsukia via the Dhola–Sadiya (Bhupen Hazarika) bridge. Mayudia is a further 56 km (2 hours).
