About Parshuram Kund

Parshuram Kund is a Hindu pilgrimage site on the Lohit river in Lohit district, eastern Arunachal Pradesh. According to legend, the sage Parashurama washed away the sin of killing his mother here, when the axe that had stuck to his hand finally fell away. Pilgrims believe that a dip in the kund cleanses sins.

The site's original pool was altered by the great 1950 earthquake, and today pilgrims bathe in the river near the temple. The main event is the Parshuram Kund Mela around Makar Sankranti (mid-January), when tens of thousands of devotees from across India and Nepal gather for the holy dip. The surrounding scenery of forested hills and the swift blue-green Lohit is striking.

Outside festival time, Parshuram Kund is quiet and can be combined with Tezu, Wakro's orange orchards, and the Mishmi villages of the Lohit valley. A bridge over the Lohit makes access straightforward.

How to reach Parshuram Kund

About 21 km from Wakro and 50 km from Tezu. Tezu has a small airport; Tinsukia and Dibrugarh are the nearest major gateways (4–5 hours).
