About this experience
Rafting on the Jia Bhoreli at Nameri National Park is less about adrenaline and more about immersion in nature. The river emerges clear and cool from the Arunachal hills, and inflatable rafts drift for roughly 13–14 km along its forested banks, with a few small rapids to keep things lively.
It is one of the best ways to see Nameri's wildlife. As you float silently, look for kingfishers, river lapwings, mergansers and, in winter, the rare ibisbill on shingle banks. Otters, monitor lizards and even elephants and gaur drinking at the river's edge are possible, and the forest echoes with hornbill wing-beats.
Trips are run with experienced guides, life jackets and safety equipment, and are suitable for families with children above about eight years. They usually start upstream and finish near Potasali eco-camp, often followed by lunch by the river. Mahseer anglers also use the river under catch-and-release rules.
