About this experience
The rivers flowing out of the Eastern Himalaya are among the last strongholds of the golden mahseer, a powerful game fish prized by anglers and listed as endangered. The Kameng (Jia Bhoreli) around Bhalukpong and Nameri, along with stretches of the Siang, Subansiri and Lohit, offer exciting catch-and-release fishing amid forested hills.
Mahseer fishing is about patience and technique: spinning and fly fishing in fast runs and deep pools, often from riverbanks or rafts. Local guides know seasonal feeding spots. The Assam (Bhoroli) Angling and Conservation Association has long promoted catch-and-release angling at Nameri and organises angling events, helping protect fish stocks.
We arrange angling trips with local guides, river camps and the necessary permissions. Strict catch-and-release practice, barbless hooks and careful handling are essential. Anglers can combine fishing with birding at Nameri or Eaglenest.
