About Seven Sisters Falls

The Seven Sisters Falls, known locally as Nohsngithiang Falls, is a broad, segmented waterfall that pours over limestone cliffs near Mawsmai village, about 1 km south of Mawsmai Cave and a few kilometres from Sohra. It drops roughly 315 m, and during the monsoon the cliff edge divides the water into several parallel streams, giving the falls their popular name.

Facing west, the falls are famous for catching the late-afternoon sun, when — on clear days — light filters through the spray and sometimes creates rainbows; locals sometimes call it the 'Mawsmai Falls'. In the dry season the streams thin to delicate threads or disappear entirely, so timing matters.

There is a viewpoint at the Eco Park at Mawsmai and along the road. On a clear day, the view extends across the Sylhet plains of Bangladesh, giving a dramatic sense of how abruptly the Khasi hills end. Combine Seven Sisters with Mawsmai Cave and Thangkharang Park in a single afternoon.
