About Dzüleke Village
Dzüleke is a small Angami village of around 30 households in a secluded, forested valley about 40 km west of Kohima, beyond Khonoma. A clear stream runs through meadows below the village, surrounded by hills covered in forest, giving it a peaceful, almost alpine feel.
The community launched the Dzüleke Eco-Tourism Initiative to protect its forests and wildlife while earning sustainable income. Hunting is restricted, and the result is a rich birdlife and an exceptional variety of butterflies, which flutter in clouds along the streams in season. Visitors stay in village homestays, eat home-cooked Angami meals, and spend their days walking, birdwatching, picnicking by the stream and chatting with families.
Dzüleke is perfect for slow travellers who want to experience everyday Naga village life away from crowds. It combines naturally with Khonoma for a two-day trip, and a small tourist information centre helps arrange guides and stays.
How to reach Dzüleke Village
About 40 km (1.5–2 hours) from Kohima via Khonoma on a narrow road.
