About Nuranang Falls
Nuranang Falls, also known as Jang Falls or Bong Bong Falls, plunges roughly 100 m down a cliff just off the road between Sela Pass and Tawang, near the small town of Jang. Fed by streams flowing from the Sela area, it falls in a broad white curtain into the Nuranang river below, and in summer the spray drifts across the viewing area.
The falls take their name from Nura, a Monpa girl remembered in local legend for helping rifleman Jaswant Singh Rawat during the 1962 war, along with her sister Sela. A short walk down from the road leads to a viewpoint at the base of the fall, and a small hydroelectric plant uses the water.
Nuranang is a natural break on the long drive to Tawang and is often visited on the way back as well. It is especially impressive after the monsoon, in September and October, when water volume is highest but roads are reopening.
